According to a recent report coming from the Chinese state-owned People’s Daily newspaper, the federal government has awarded a contract of around $382 million to a Chinese construction company in order to reconstruct and expand Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.
The contract having value of RMB 2.6 billion was awarded to China Construction Third Engineering Bureau. The Pakistani government needs the construction firm to ‘engineer, procure and construct a redesigned Lahore airport.’ This marks “another important achievement in Belt and Road construction” according to the Chinese media.
According to the report:
‘Following its expansion and reconstruction, it will become Pakistan’s largest airport. It is the largest project that the Third Engineering Bureau has undertaken overseas, marking another important achievement in Belt and Road construction.”
