According to a latest report, 5 hydro-electric power plants are going to be established in Gilgit-Baltistan. Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) Chairman, welcomed the approval given by the federal government to begin work on 5 hydro power projects.
The hydro power projects will likely help to end the electricity shortage issue in GB. They will be constructed under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and may cost around Rs. 26 billion.
In order to boost Pakistan’s economy, the PIAF chairman has asked for early construction of the Kalabagh Dam. The dam would provide the consumers with low-priced and ample electricity, he noted.
