According to latest report, a mega oil city will be constructed by Pakistan on an area of 80,000 acres in Gwadar under the CPEC. This Mega oil city will be developed for import oil storage and its transportation from Gwadar port to China. This will further minimize the distance by reducing the travel time to seven days to travel from Gwadar to China as compared to import through western china that take almost 40 days.
During a visit organized by Planning Commission to exhibit the current projects under CPEC, The Director General Gwadar Development Authority said:
“We have forwarded PC-1 to the Ministry of Petroleum for acquiring 80,000 acres for this mega oil city at Gwadar with estimated cost of Rs10 billion. There will be additional cost for construction of its storage and other aligned facilities with the help of investments.”
DG-GDA Dr. Sajjad H Baloch said that the total area is 290,000 acres including 160,000 acres for residential and some for industrial usage. A petrochemical industry and refinery would also be established in the oil city. This Model city Plan will hopefully be launch by August 14th 2018. A Chinese company is currently working on the Model plan of this mega city.
