The role of women in CPEC

According to a latest report, Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani, the KPK Assembly Deputy Speaker, greatly stressed that the women should play a vital role in CPEC as they represent 51% of the total population of the country.

The Deputy Speaker was addressing at a ceremony of a three day conference titled “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC): Opportunities and Challenges”. During her speech she said that the participation of women should have been guaranteed at the very start of the CPEC project.

During her talk she regretted the fact that issue of participation of women had been neglected by the government for being unaware of the role of women in the mega CPEC project. She expressed that:

“We were ignored totally but it was the government and chief minister who fought till the end to take the province share.”

She explained that KPK government is working hard on various facets of CPEC and she feels happy that CPEC does have a part for women to play their role as well. She remarked:

“Youth is primarily the main beneficiary of this project and I would like to emphasise that females would benefit much from this project, which is huge in terms of funding and the numbers of years it is stretched over”.
