Pakistan and China have planned to move the investments made in the energy sector to hydropower sector after the production of 11,110MW of energy from the regular power projects.
Those energy projects which were included in the CPEC’s active list for the implementation are either finished or are close to their completion. The remaining addition of power capacity is 6,000MW and that will be produced under hydropower projects in the next stage.
A spokesman for Planning Commission told that Pakistan and China both have decided a total addition in power capacity would be near 17,000 MW as per to the contract of CPEC Energy Cooperation. The official further spoke:
“Priority would be on the development of hydropower resource on the Indus river”.
It was planned that the total capacity under CPEC would be kept unaltered and remaining capacity will be shifted to the hydropower projects. Pakistan has anticipated this shift early this year so the additional capacity for power production has been contracted for the speedy execution.
