Report: Pakistan delays FTA-II signing with China at the final moment

According to a latest report, Pakistan has delayed the signing of a revised free trade agreement with China because of strong reservations related to the final offer list shared by Beijing. This decision was shared by Minister of State for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal. The deputy finance minister:

“The agreement was almost ready for signing when we conveyed our reservations to the prime minister about the final list of concessions that Beijing shared at 11pm.”

The committee showed concern over the secret nature of FTA-II talks, as it said. The Ambassador of China held meetings over the last few days with the commerce secretary and PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to ensure the completion of the deal.

While it was almost a mature deal that was just to be signed by China and Pakistan, the decision to delay it was made after Faisalabad business community notified about the serious concerns about the Chinese final offer list.
