Report: Contract between Power Division of Pakistan and State Grid Corporation China signed

According to a new report, PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi witnessed signing of the contract between the Power Division of Pakistan and the State Grid Corporation of China on Monday for the construction of 878 kilometre 600 KV HVDC Bipole Transmission Line from Matiari to Lahore.

This agreement is a part of the CPEC and under that there will be 2 convertor stations with AC switching stations at Matiari and Lahore. In addition there would be 2 electrode stations at Matiari  as well as Lahore each and 3 repeater stations along the route of the line. The project company is being sponsored by the State Grid Corporation of China.

With the launching of CPEC energy portfolio, planning for evacuation of power of almost 4,000 megawatts of electricity from the upcoming power plants, which includes Thar, Port Qasim, nuclear at Hub became a challenge for the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC). To manage the issue, HVDC transmission line was planned under the mega CPEC project for which agreement was signed back in 2015 between NTDC and the State Grid Corporation of China.

This project is the very first of its kind in the country. Not just that, this project is the first being carried out under the Government of Pakistan Transmission Policy-2015 on build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis for 25 years as well.
