Once upon a time Pakistan was labelled as the most dangerous country in the world. This was the impression that was held by the western media back in 2007. But within a few years, the same country has a completely new reputation thanks to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Today, Pakistan has attracted $2.2 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). China is the top most contributor in all this. China accounted for 68 percent of total FDI in Pakistan during the present fiscal year.
The increasing investment from China is backing the rising trend in FDI under the CPEC projects.
The mega project has also created positive environment in the country for FDI with countries such as Malaysia and the United Kingdom that are making notable contributions.
According to data by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), FDI increased by 2.4 percent during the first 10 months.
While the FDI is still not enough to cover the current fiscal deficits, it is anticipated that the FDI is going to rise in the time to come that would help make up for these deficits.
