The Ambassador of China to Pakistan, H.E. Yao Jing, highlighted the importance of CPEC for Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) during a meeting with Vice Chancellor (VC) of Karakorum International University’s (KIU), Prof Ataullah Shah. He said that the locals of GB could take maximum benefits from the opportunities that will be created in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) due to CPEC.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing has said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will change the socioeconomic conditions of Gilgit-Baltistan people.

He said this mega project would provide trade, employment and education opportunities to the people of Pakistan as well as for GB.

During the meeting Prof Ataullah Shah, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Karakorum International University’s (KIU), informed H.E. Yao Jing about the CPEC centre, his university has set up, which they willing to transfer into a CPEC Centre of Excellence.

Yao Jing appreciated the initiative and said that CPEC Centre would become a place for CPEC research. He also agreed to cooperate for further improving the performance of the centre. The varsity vice-chancellor briefed the ambassador about the completed and ongoing activities at the CPEC Centre. He also highlighted the strategic importance of the varsity in the context of CPEC.

The agenda of the meeting is to build a long-term relationship between the Chinese Embassy, CPEC centre, KIU and all other stakeholders. Possibilities regarding exchange programmes, research grants and partnerships with Chinese universities also came under discussion.

The vice chancellor also invited The Ambassador of China to Pakistan, H.E. Yao Jing to visit KIU , and he accepted.
