Pakistan is looking greener now thanks to the recent project that was carried out on hills of the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is now made alive with tons of new saplings under the Billion Tree Tsunami, the huge reforestation project.

Under this project around 350,000 hectares of trees were added y planting and natural regeneration. The goal is to restore the province’s depleted forests in addition to combating the effects of climate change.

Pakistan has one of the lowest levels of forest cover in the region while the recommended touches the 12% mark by the UN. Another alarming fact is that Pakistan is also among the 6 countries that are to be affected by global warming.

Imran Khan started the Billion Tree Tsunami project that started back in 2014. Other than adding trees,  a network of private tree nurseries has also been established.
